The families of young people unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are facing an agonising wait for answers and pleading for any details about their loved ones publicly.

The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated images reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Authorities have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and injured another 119. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to locate the other six.

In the interim, families and friends have been using the internet to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that evening.

Appeals for the Missing

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his mother.

The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a publication that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but was unsuccessful.

"This is a living nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she stated.

She continued that some of his friends had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured hell."

The Italian foreign ministry has said that six of its nationals remain missing.

Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.

The national sporting body has stated that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values."

His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is awaited.

Further Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
