A Heap of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The winter break provide a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and employing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at relatives. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments came out over the break, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the biggest announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
